Greetings All,
I am so happy to share the next 6 weeks with you and I really enjoyed reading all of your answers. So many books and things to check out based on your responses. I’m thinking of making one long list of books for us. What do all think about that?

I look forward to reading your “9’s Poems.” Let me know if you have any questions on that first assignment. Please feel free to tweak the 9’s as well and make a “7’s” or an “11’s” based on the same format.

Here are some bonus prompts for the week:

  1. What is the “play list” or “sound track” of your life right now in this moment. List ten “tracks” and give your life a genre.
  2. If you had to sculpt, paint or choreograph one of your happiest memories, what colors and tools would you use? How big? How small? If painting acrylic, water? Would it be framed or no frame? Canvas? Side walk chalked?

Journal Assignment:
In addition to our regular class assignments, please if you are able, set aside a journal just for journal prompts. Also just a word or google doc will do! The ongoing journal assignment is to become “obsessed”with a new object every week and write down the steps of how you chose the subject matter…write down the process. For example, last week I was “obsessed” over the different names and kinds of flowers. This took me to animal kingdoms and classifications. That took me to endangered animals. That took me to why some people are vegetarians. That took me to the difference between vegans and vegetarians and that took me finally to…the term “food deserts” and “food justice.” Now, my process was long! You may know already what you want to research. The goal is to let this researching and obsession to be your go to instead of surfing the net. It becomes your random activity. This then becomes a journal full of FACTS and subjects that you can use for future writing or art…a perfect way to never have writers block and a great way to always have facts and visuals on deck.

“See” you next week!
Professor A.

Hi! I am Kadie. I like to be called Rainbow Schubert. I love it actually.
she/they

book on my nightstand:
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

others I’m currently reading:
How to Order the Universe by Maria Jose Ferada
home body, by Rupi Kaur
An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo
four-legged girl by Dian Seuss

I like listening to different things (variety is important to me) but the Grateful Dead have been on more lately.

My writing ancestor: good question! It always stuck with me, an Interview with poet Marie Howe, where she said her mission was to write her spiritual autobiography. I like her work a lot, but I haven’t read all of it. Lidia Yuknovich and Alice Walker have changed my life so them.

On a continuing basis I am moved by Audre Lorde, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Octavia Butler, Kiese Laymon, and Kimberly Dark.

Dancing, singing, playing, composing, and creating make little me happy.

This is a photo of me playing piano in my happiest place – nature. In this photo at sf botanical gardens at their Flower Piano event.

The other photo is from my studio where I have some of my art up on the wall.

Mostly podcasts of late. If I’m writing I tend toward something instrumental – either classical, electronic, folk.
